This year of 2009 was, well, interesting to say the least. Filled with the rough waters caused by an unsettled economy, the business tide this year was rough and tumble. But we at SignARama learned how to surf. We rode the highs and lows of customer fear and hesitation about purchasing signs of all types from simple magnetics to banners and especially to larger retail signs and vehicle graphics. Even some small engraved sign orders were put on hold until the customers' ship came in.
And we surfed the web, or more accurately, we embraced social media. Follow us on Twitter, or become a Fan of SignARama on Facebook. We will be certain to converse with you at these new venues.
Remember that every rough eddy, or rocky coastline, has a useful lesson to share. Here are a few lessons that we learned and some things we are grateful for, too:
1. Thank your staff. A lot. They help small businesses flourish and our staff certainly helped us this year. 2. Get back to basics. This was our chance to market better, and we did. 3. Thank your vendors a lot, too. 4. Improve your business procedures and work flow. Now we know the status of our orders, our follow-ups to quotes are more efficient and that’s a good thing. 5. Do not give up, and always know that you can ask for help. When the water looks choppy, remember to be on the lookout for the lighthouse not too far away.
Happy New Year during this season of light. What plans do you have to improve your business in 2010?
