When Pete Thayer, of Thayer's Automotive in South Burlington, Vermont, revived the Will Fish for Fun kids fishing derby, and asked Bob Diaco of SignARama to assist with this year's event, all Bob could think about was fish, fish, fish and kids, kids, kids. Bob is a life-long fisherman, biologist, and lover of anything piscatorial.
You see, Bob was invited in 2007 to help with the event and be a sponsor. He saw Will Fish for Fun grow radically in 2008. So for 2009, he expected to see lots of, well, fish and kids with their parents, enjoying fishing off the docks and piers down at Burlington's watefront.
Even weighing in the fish is fun for Bob, but helping families learn to love fishing was important, too.
And that, of course, was Pete Thayer's goal as welll: to bring interested volunteers together who provide kids and their families an opportunity to fish. For the third year in a row, Will Fish for Fun hosted its event on the waterfront of Lake Champlain in downtown Burlington.
Pete used to be a judge at the annual Chaos Derby, sponsored by Burlington Parks and Recreation, and the predecessor for Will Fish for Fun. When the Chaos Derby ended, Pete felt he could continue the program with an all-volunteer force and even improve the derby for kids in the greater Burlington area.
And Pete has for the third year in a row and already has plans for next year's event.
Maybe Bob will weigh-in your son or daughter's fish in 2010?
